I didn’t set out to find myself. Why would I? I wasn’t lost. At least I didn’t think I was. Until my perfectly-crafted life collapsed around me, like a sandcastle on an incoming tide.
Within the blink of an eye, it all went. Twenty one years of marriage – gone. Three close relatives in the space of a few months – gone. My mother too after a horrid battle with cancer. Drained by grief and pain, energy depleted, I sold the business that had been my passion for five years – that to was gone. With so much loss, all that remained was the reality of my life:- a dysfunctional relationship with my father; siblings that I only saw on Christmas Day; and a handful of friends.
I had no idea where the journey was going to take me. Nor how long it would last. I think it’s better that way. Knowing what lay ahead would have been overwhelming because there is no end destination. Only evolution. Each step we take reveals more. Attempts to ‘get there’ only keep us locked within our minds.
“When the pupil is ready, the teacher appears”. For me, the O&O Academy, a philosophy and meditation school for the transformation of consciousness, became my teacher. I first participated in gatherings and events in New Zealand. In 2012 I travelled to India to take part in an intensive 9 -day awakening course. I’ve been back three times since. The teachings and processes I experienced impacted my whole being. Awakened states became frequent. My consciousness expanded. So too how I experience life:- healed relationships, more abundance, greater happiness.
Like a pebble dropped in a pond, ripples of consciousness spread ever-increasing circles, impacting many, whose lives also start to change. This has been visible with businesses I have worked with. Companies have transformed, stellar financial results achieved, while greater happiness is evident amongst the people.
In 2016 a second teacher appeared in my life – David Martin (www.davidmartinworld.com) Where O&O speaks of transforming consciousness, David speaks of source coherence. Different languaging, different processes, each delivering equally powerful and profound life-changing experiences.
My life today bears no resemblance to how it was. Happiness and joy have become my every day companions. Challenges still arise – they always will. It is the ease in which I approach them that has changed. No longer tainted by the accumulated stories of a lifetime racing in my head, judgement has ceased as has the incessant obsessing about myself. Consciousness delivers ‘right action’ – a place where decisions rooted in wisdom are made that deliver betterment for all and not just the few. As lofty as this may sound, every success in every company I have ever led has been the result of taking right action.
Transforming consciousness is an ongoing commitment to self. It’s a journey that I am grateful to have entered. My life is unrecognisable from the ‘perfect’ illusion it was 15 years ago. I am grateful for all that I learned up until that time, and I am grateful for now seeing and living my truth. Now more than ever as our lives, businesses and communities evolve in the post pandemic world, expanding our individual and collective consciousness is vital.
For as Einstein once said:
“You can not solve a problem with the same level of consciousness with which it was created.”
